Ashtanga Vinyasa Flow – Tami
Its founder Sri K. Pattabhi Jois primarily introduced Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga to the practitioners of the West. Ashtanga Vinyasa is a form of Hatha yoga that has the capacity to de-stress and re-shape the body as well as keep our circulatory system fresh with oxygenated blood. It has been described as “mind medicine” because it focuses on the asana (posture), pranayama (breath control) and Vinyasa (the linking of postures through breath and movement), which allows us to attain deeper levels of tranquility and mental peace. In this class we will learn not only the postures but also the breath and Vinyasa that goes with them. As a teacher I feel that my job is to share the information that I have learned to make everyone’s yoga practice something more than just going through the motions. I’m very open to questions as well as suggestions. Yoga should be fun enjoyable and individual. You should want to do it again and again, not dread it. I feel the more we know something the less fear we have about it and the more we can appreciate it, this is definitely true for yoga.
